Lent 2019 Day 25 Job chapter 27

Satan has lost! In chapter 1, Satan received power over everything that Job had. He took everything from Job, but Job did not sin. Job 2:3, "Then the Lord said to Satan, “Have you considered My servant Job, that there is none like him on the earth, a blameless and upright man, one who fears God and shuns evil? And still he holds fast to his integrity, although you incited Me against him, to destroy him without cause.”" God declared that Job had maintained his integrity.

Satan countered with, Job 2:4-6, "So Satan answered the Lord and said, “Skin for skin! Yes, all that a man has he will give for his life. But stretch out Your hand now, and touch his bone and his flesh, and he will surely curse You to Your face!”  And the Lord said to Satan, “Behold, he is in your hand, but spare his life.”" God puts Job in Satan's hand, but God put the hedge around Job's life breath. The three friends have come to try and comfort, but Satan used them to tempt Job. The accuser of the brethren has tried mightily to get a conviction. He has called three witnesses to try and prove Job's guilt. The prosecution has now rest their case, and now Job is speaking in his own defense.

In todays chapter Job says, 27:3-6, "As long as my breath is in me, And the breath of God in my nostrils, My lips will not speak wickedness, Nor my tongue utter deceit. Far be it from me That I should say you are right; Till I die I will not put away my integrity from me. My righteousness I hold fast, and will not let it go; My heart shall not reproach me as long as I live.

Integrity is honesty and truthfulness, even when nobody is watching. I think that it is amazing that God should say in chapter 2 that Job maintained his integrity. Even though the world does not see our private lives, God always sees. For Job, to admit that his friends were right, would be a lie, and Job said that he is not going to do it. Job has a lot of FAITH, but here, he demonstrates great DEVOTION.

Satan could not take away the life breath, because that belonged to God. God put a hedge around the life breath. But Job's integrity was something that Job held onto. Sometimes we fall in temptation, because we don't have the DEVOTION to hold onto what is true with everything we have.
