Lent 2019 Day 40 Job Chapter 42

"Now the Lord blessed the latter days of Job more than his beginning..." Job is restored in every way. Easter is about God restoring what Satan has stolen or destroyed. Ultimately it is about the restoration of our relationship with God which was destroyed by Satan's temptation of Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden.

For this restoration to happen, Job repented, "I know that You can do everything,And that no purpose of Yours can be withheld from You. You asked, ‘Who is this who hides counsel without knowledge?’ Therefore I have uttered what I did not understand, Things too wonderful for me, which I did not know. Listen, please, and let me speak; You said, ‘I will question you, and you shall answer Me.’ “I have heard of You by the hearing of the ear, But now my eye sees You.  Therefore I abhor myself,  And repent in dust and ashes.”" It would appear that the concluding chapter of Job, vindicated Job of all sin, but Job repented. He repented, because he knows God better now than he did. He had only heard about God, but now he has seen God. All our earthly pains will melt away when we finally see God.

Job repents of his pride, because now he realizes that he spoke of things he did not understand, things too wonderful for him. God restored everything for Job. He restored his family and God restored all his possessions. But something amazing happened as well. God restored Job's friends.

"So Eliphaz the Temanite and Bildad the Shuhite and Zophar the Naamathite went and did as the Lord commanded them; for the Lord had accepted Job." I don't know what was harder. Was it harder for the three friends to swallow their pride and go to Job, or was it harder for Job to forgive his friends for all the things they said to him? Sometimes we have said some things to others that were not right, and indeed, we must repent and make it right. But people have also said some things to us that hurt us. The story of Easter is about restoration.

These three friends were very close to Job, like brothers, and it is a shame that the trials of this life can destroy such special friendships. I pray that Easter this year is a time of complete RESTORATION. I pray that God restores our relationship with Him and with all those whom we have offended and those who have offended us.
