Lent 2019 Day 4, Job chapter 6

Job chapter 6 is Job's first reponse to the comforting efforts of his friends. Job makes an interesting statement to his friends in verse 14, "To him who is afflicted, kindness should be shown by his friend, Even though he forsakes the fear of the Almighty." Even though Job fears the Lord, his friends are not coming along side of him to encourage him.

For the most part I think that the church empathises with church people who are afflicted. We read in 1 Corinthians 12:25-26, " that there should be no schism in the body, but that the members should have the same care for one another. And if one member suffers, all the members suffer with it; or if one member is honored, all the members rejoice with it.

But what is our attitude towards those friends of ours who are not in the church? Do we have friends who are not in the church? We know that suffering shows no partiality. Afliction does not care if you are Christian, Jewish or Muslim. Matthew 5:45 reminds us, "God causes the sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous.

What an opportunity to show the compassion of Christ to lost coworkers, neighbors, friends, and those not so friendly... this is the best way to be a witness, in my opinion.
