40 Days of Service Day 13

Morning Prayer: Lord, how can I serve you today?

Scripture: Luke 20: 9-18

In 1995, Scott Wesley wrote a funny missionary song. “Please don't send me to Africa. I don't think I've got what it takes. I'm just a man I'm not a Tarzan. Don't like lions, gorillas or snakes. I'll serve you here in suburbia, in my comfortable middle class life. But please don't send me to the ends of the earth where the natives are restless at night” Do servants have a choice in where they serve?

Jesus tells a parable of a master who sends three servants to a hostile group of people. They beat the first two servants and sent them away empty-handed. I wonder how the third servant felt when the master was sending him. Would you want to take the message of your master to a hostile group of people? This group of people not only treated the servants with hostility, they killed the son.

This world belongs to God, because He created it, and we are His servants. We have all been sent to share God’s message with His people. It seems like our world is growing more hostile to the message. Sometimes the church might even be guilty of changing the message so it sounds more palatable.

Lord, give us boldness to share the message, even with people who are hostile to it.
