40 Days of Service Day 24

Morning Prayer: Lord, how can I serve others today?

Scripture: Mark 9:33-37

The disciples had an argument. How many times do people in church have arguments that are as silly as the disciples? The disciples were arguing about who was the greatest. Arguments divide us, because we no longer accept the other person’s opinion. We reject their thoughts and ideas. Jesus tells His disciples, “If anyone wants to be first, he must be the very last, and the servant of all.” It is impossible to serve others when we do not accept their opinion or position. We are willing to serve some, those we accept, but we can’t serve all because we do not agree with all.

Jesus took a child and had him stand among the 12 disciples. This child’s role was to serve the guest of the home. This child probably had the lowest job in the house. He might have washed the disciples’ feet when they came into the home. Jesus took that child and had him stand among the 12 disciples. Then Jesus did the most amazing thing. Jesus hugged him. He took him in his arms and accepted him. He then turns to his disciples and tells them that they need to be accepting of others. Do not let an argument keep you from serving each other.
