40 Days of Service Day 29

Morning Prayer: Lord, how can I serve others today?

Scripture: Galatians 5:13-15

Galatians 5:1, “It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened down again by a yoke of slavery.” Paul is concerned that people will use their freedom from the law to become slaves to the sinful nature that is rooted deep in their hearts. The sinful nature reveals itself in seven forms.  Anger, and uncontrollable malice toward others. Envy, a desire to have what belongs to others. Gluttony, excessive consumption of food or drink. Sloth, excessive laziness. Pride, excessive view of oneself. Lust, an uncontrollable sexual craving. Greed, excessive desire and pursuit of material possession. These seven sins focus on one thing, and that is love for oneself.

Paul believes that instead of indulging in love for ourselves, we must “serve others in love.” Instead of Envy, what do we have that we can give to others? Instead of Anger, how can we show love for others? Instead of Gluttony, how can we feed others? Instead of Pride, how can we encourage others? Instead of Lust, how can we respect others? Instead of Greed, how can we give to others?
