40 Days of Service Day 30

Morning Prayer: Lord, how can I serve others today?

Scripture: Galatians 6:1-6

Sin is powerful and destructive. Sin separates us from God and from each other. Paul gives us a new image of sin. Sin is a burden that we carry. The law binds us with restriction and requirements, but sin weighs us down, so we can no longer go about our daily lives. There is an old Arabic idiom, “The straw that broke the camel’s back.” The camel is a beast of burden. Their job is to carry heavy loads. But sometimes the load that is placed on them is too much. They can no longer carry the weight or even stand. What is the final straw in our spiritual life?

Serving others is more than just a physical commandment. We are called to spiritually serve others as well. Jesus gave us the ultimate example. Isaiah 53:4, “Surely he took up our infirmities and carried our sorrows.” 1Peter 2:24, “He himself bore our sins in His body on the tree.” This means praying for people you know who are struggling under the burden of sin. This means helping them carry that burden through accountability groups, and restoring them back into a right relationship with God and with the church.
