40 Days of Service Day 39

Morning Prayer: Lord, how can I serve others today?

Scripture: Philippians 2:1-11

Winnie-the-Pooh had two friends that were complete opposites. One was a blue donkey named Eeyore. Eeyore was a “woe is me” kind of character. Eeyore just knew that bad things were going to happen to him, and sure enough bad things happened to him. The other friend of Winnie-the-Pooh was Tigger. Tigger was a very excited kind of character. He was always bouncing around on his tail. Do you see life like Eeyore or Tigger? There are a lot of things in this life that you cannot control, but attitude is something that we can all control.

Paul says, “Your attitude should be the same as that of Christ Jesus.” The attitude of Christ is hard to duplicate, because it is not selfish. Jesus was selfless. It was an attitude that did not seek greatness, or even equality. Jesus could have looked down on everybody. Instead He humbled himself and looked up to everybody. Jesus could have felt betrayed and forsaken by His disciples, but instead He entrusted His mother to them. Jesus could have felt abused by the Romans, but instead He prayed for their forgiveness while on the cross.

Today is a sad day as we remember the darkness of the cross, but with a servant’s heart, Jesus embraced the cross, because He knew it would bring freedom for you and for me.
